This chai spice is a homemade spice blend that emulates the sharp, spicy, warm notes of chai tea. This chai spice blend uses cinnamon, anise, nutmeg, coriander seed, cardamom, ginger, and black pepper to mimic a warm chai latte flavor. Use this chai spice in all your fall-winter baking!

Inspired by this Chai tea blend from Monica Patino in Mexico City, I translated her ingredient list and then tinkered with the proportions of cinnamon, anise, nutmeg, coriander seed, cardamom, ginger, and black pepper to get a homemade spice blend that emulates that sharp, spicy, warm flavor of chai tea.

Combine 1) Cinnamon – 2 ½ tablespoons 2) Ground anise seed – 2 tablespoons 3) Nutmeg – 1 ½ teaspoon 4) Coriander seed – 1 ½ teaspoon 5) Cardamom – 1 ½ teaspoon 6) Ginger – 1 ½ teaspoon and 7) Black pepper – ¼ teaspoon all together and store in a jar. Boom! Done.

It’s as easy as that! You can use this homemade chai spice blend for tea, lattes, jams, and so many more! A few of these wonderful recipes I’ve used this blend for are linked below.
